If you’re a skincare hoarder, now is a great time to channel your inner Marie Kondo and clean out your skincare stash. Not only will it leave you with more space in your bathroom cabinet, but it will also reinvigorate your skincare routine for healthy, glowing skin.
Here’s how to spring clean your skincare products.
-
- Check the expiry dates on your packaging. Look on the label for a picture of a little jar. It will have a number inside it. This is the number of months the product is good for once opened. Toss anything that has been open for too long. Expired beauty products are less effective. Plus, they expose your skin to unnecessary bacteria, and who wants that?
-
- If you can’t remember when you opened the product, it’s probably been open for too long and needs to go.
-
- Get rid of anything you haven’t used since Christmas. If you’ve not used it in the last 3 months, you will not use it, so let it go.
-
- Take out anything that doesn’t make you feel good when you use it. If a product makes your skin sting or go red, it isn’t doing you any good. There’s a difference between skin tingling from active ingredients and skin stinging.
-
- Check your sunscreen. You should use sunscreen all year round to protect your skin from sun damage and premature ageing. A typical sunscreen will last 12-18 months. Did you buy new sunscreen last year? If not, it’s probably time to buy some to make sure you’re still getting adequate protection.
-
- Clean your make-up brushes. Wash them with warm soapy water, rinse them until the water runs clear, then leave them to air dry.
Got unused products? Help others by searching for beauty product donations plus your hometown to find out where to donate your unused personal care products.
Clearing out old and unused skincare products not only lightens your make-up bag, it lightens your energy. It doesn’t matter if you’re left with 2 products or 15 products, if it’s products you use and that make your skin feel good, you’ll feel good every time you use them.
Commit to a beauty spring clean this month and see for yourself.
